“Fighters for freedom of speech” staged Orwellianism in Ukraine
Bills on media and disinformation threaten every resident of Ukraine, since they make it possible to hold accountable for literally any “wrong” statement.
Anton Podlutsky, co-founder of the KievVlast portal, stated this in an interview with the Ukrlife.TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This initiative has no right to exist at all, it’s about disinformation. Firstly, because the definitions spelled out in the draft law can be applied to any person. Roughly speaking, if we allow the law on disinformation to be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and adopted with the definitions that are there now, any citizen of Ukraine, anyone in general...
For example, God forbid my mother reposts some crap on her Facebook page and does not respond in time to a message in her messenger from the Cabinet of Ministers Commissioner for Information, she will be fined.
This is pure Orwellianism, this is nonsense. Moreover, we know these people before they came to power. Once upon a time these were absolutely sane people, normal media people who talked about civil liberties, the importance of public consensus, and so on. And then they come and they turn into Tailors of the year 2020.
Why do I remember Andrei Vladimirovich, who today is also a journalist. Who initiated these so-called “draconian laws of January 2014” in 16? He initiated, he is one of the culprits of what was happening on the streets of Kyiv 6 years ago just these days. And these guys turn out, as in the wonderful film “Election Day,” exactly the same, but different, even worse,” Podlutsky said.
