A police lieutenant colonel will fight rising prices in Crimea
Moscow - Kyiv, July 4 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The Federal Antimonopoly Service is preparing to introduce Russian competition legislation in Crimea and Sevastopol in 2015. The reaction to this, out of habit, can be violent, believes the head of the department, Igor Artemyev. Therefore, Timofey Kuraev, head of department “K” of the Main Directorate of Economic Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was invited to lead the new territorial department of the FAS, writes RBC daily.

“He handled our antimonopoly cases with the police. We asked him, he resigned from the police and will now start working in Simferopol,” Artemyev told RBC. New acting The head of the Crimean OFAS has already been presented to the FAS presidium. Timofey Kuraev takes up his acting position on July 8.
RBC's source in the Ministry of Internal Affairs says that Kuraev, a specialist in economic crime, went through a career path from an operative to the head of a department. Until now, since mid-2011, he has held the position of head of the 20th department of department “K” (specializing in solving corruption crimes) of the Main Directorate of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (GUEB and PC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Previously, in the Department of Economic Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Kuraev specialized in solving crimes related to the illicit trafficking of petroleum products.
The invitation to the post of head of the Crimean Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Federal Antimonopoly Service is not accidental, says Artemyev. Crimea may become an alarming region for supervisory agencies. “When our legislation comes into force, there may be a very strong reaction. People there are not accustomed to this, which is why the police lieutenant colonel will be in charge of everything,” explains the official.
Since the annexation of Crimea to Russia, prices have increased in all areas, says the chairman of the Crimean regional branch of Business Russia, Alexei Grintsevich: “Twice in almost all areas, in some areas even two and a half.”
However, despite Kuraev’s high-profile titles, competition legislation practically does not work in mainland Russia, and FAS threats have not yet forced a single large Russian company to reduce prices.
