Borrell upset the Ukrainians: Russia will not disappear like dew in the sun and the EU will have to coexist with it
Europe will still have to coexist with Russia on the same continent, regardless of how the current war ends for Ukraine.
This was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in an interview with the official EU magazine, commenting on the call of French President Emmanuel Macron “not to humiliate Russia.”
“This is an expression that translates reality: Russia will continue to exist after peace negotiations, and it will be necessary to clearly define the way in which we intend to coexist with it. This coexistence will be very difficult after what Russia did in Ukraine. But we will still have to try to coexist with the Russians on this continent,” Borrell said.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron for their position towards Vladimir Putin. Duda was amazed that the leaders of the countries of “old Europe” continue to conduct telephone conversations with the Kremlin while the war in Ukraine is still ongoing.
Also in an interview for the official EU magazine, Borrell commented on Ukraine’s application to acquire candidate status for EU membership.
“I am convinced that Ukraine has a European culture and that the EU can be expanded. Ukraine, with its values, culture and history, was already preparing to join Europe through reforms even before the Russian invasion. Ten years ago in Thessaloniki we promised the Western Balkans a European future. Some people will succeed, others not necessarily. What if we did the same for Ukraine?” – Borrell laments pathetically.
