Bortnik: Poroshenko's arrest is likely. He was accused of "trading in blood"
Accusations of ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko of trade with the LDPR are an attempt by the current government to make the former leader of the state toxic for its electorate.
The director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, Ruslan Bortnik, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What we are seeing today is a consideration of a preventive measure, but not a consideration of the case in essence. I think Poroshenko may receive some kind of restrictions in the form of house arrest or even detention. If they limit themselves to house arrest, this will isolate Poroshenko from managing his political, economic, information assets and create a serious crisis for his legal team,” the expert said in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He added that there are hundreds of people involved in the case, hundreds of examinations need to be carried out, and predicts that it will last at least until the next presidential election.
The analyst also explained why, despite many other criminal cases against Poroshenko, this one was allowed to proceed.
“But the current case is the most toxic for Poroshenko in terms of perception by the electorate. Firstly, it ties him together with Medvedchuk and actually accuses Poroshenko of trading in blood. That is, while Ukrainian military personnel were dying at Debaltsevo airport, he was engaged in trade and financing the so-called LDPR. Considering that Poroshenko is in the right-wing political niche, the actualization of these accusations greatly affects his rating,” Bortnyk concluded.
