Bortnik: Bankova is severely crushing Klitschko’s presidential ambitions
The demonstration of political ambitions by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko caused a crisis in relations between him and the Office of the President of Ukraine, which resulted in the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to dismiss three heads of regional state administrations of the Ukrainian capital.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The roots of this confrontation are Klitschko’s presidential ambitions. Since it is impossible to pass a law according to which it would be possible to separate the powers of the mayor and the powers of the head of the Kyiv City State Administration and appoint another person to this position, we took a different route,” he noted.
“They are gradually cutting off the strings of management from Klitschko to the executive structures of administrations at the district and city levels. At first there were dozens of searches that paralyzed city structures and utility companies. Searches, seizures of documents, cases against managers - these companies and city structures were actually blocked. They stopped working in the Klitschko team’s system and generating profit for it. This is one stage of action against Klitschko.
The second stage - in relation to state administrations, which since 2020 were actually divided equally between Bankova and Khreshchatyk - half of the leaders in Kyiv were associated with Klitschko, half - with Bankova. And this balance, which was formed between the head of the President’s Office and the Klitschko team after Bogdan’s resignation, was destroyed by this decision.
The demonstration of political ambitions (Klitschko) caused a natural political crisis between him and the President’s Office, which we are seeing today,” concluded Ruslan Bortnik.
