Bortnik: “Time has shortened for Ukraine. Russia went all-in"
Russia is demonstrating its readiness to enter into conflict with the West if it fails to get NATO to refusal of further expansion to the East.
Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"By Ryabkov's statements one gets the impression that this is either extreme bravado on Russia’s part, or the Russian Federation is counting on a refusal of its proposals, and is demonstrating its readiness to take subsequent steps after this refusal,” the political scientist noted.
“Our time is very compressed. I think that by the end of January the negotiations between Russia and the United States will end, then there will be some new round. Or an escalation will begin, and it is possible in very different ways - starting from a new Cuban crisis, Russian missiles somewhere in Venezuela, with hypersonic weapons aimed at Washington. And ending with the strengthening of armaments in Kaliningrad, creating a crisis for Germany, the main American partner,” Bortnik said.
Bortnik also emphasized that a sharp escalation could occur in Donbass.
“The situation in Donbass is very delicate. All conditions have been created for any provocation, after which you will not be able to tell who started it. The exchange of armed forces will begin. Therefore, everything will develop very quickly, and by April of this year it will be clear what the relationship between Russia and the West will be, and what Ukraine will be like, what place it will have on the geopolitical map. Russia went all-in,” the expert concluded.
