Bortnik: Cities in Eastern Ukraine where the conflict will be “unfrozen” are already being named behind the scenes
Until the New Year, no one will be interested in Ukraine, since active negotiations are ongoing between the Russian Federation and the United States on the “Geneva agreements,” the result of which will be a solution to the Ukrainian issue.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine is irrelevant today. Relatively speaking, even the preparation of this visit (Zelensky in the USA - ed.), some kind of documents, agreements - no one in Washington will be seriously involved today,” Bortnik said.
In addition, he recalled that there is a “limiter” in the form of behind-the-scenes dialogue between the United States and Russia on the implementation of agreements adopted at the Geneva summit.
“And in fact, the absence of the United States on the “Crimean Platform”, low political presence, a demonstration that while these negotiations are ongoing, the United States will do something serious regarding Ukraine, serious that could be interpreted by Russia as a breakdown of the negotiation process, some kind of escalation marker , will not. The visit could have been important, but it came at the worst possible time. And the question is not even summer, but Afghanistan and the Geneva process, first of all,” the political scientist explained.
“Until the New Year, there will be relative stability in US-Russian relations with situational exacerbations, but everyone will be waiting to see how the negotiation situation will develop.
...If they don’t agree on anything, then Ukraine may be unfrozen again, the conflict in the East may be unfrozen. Already today, cities in the East of Ukraine are heard behind the scenes, the situation around which may worsen. I won’t name them on the air now; signals are already being transmitted.
If they agree, then maybe they will simply leave Ukraine in relative stability, and this could be a golden time for Zelensky - this is one option. If they reach an agreement very far, very deeply, then Zelensky may be changed,” predicted Ruslan Bortnik.
