Bortnik: Zelensky clings to the remnants of popularity before an inevitable fall into the abyss
The rating of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has already stopped growing and has begun to slowly fall, and although holding a military parade will stabilize it for some time, a further decline is inevitable, and it will bring down the current government as a whole.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this on air on the NASH TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The authoritarian model of governance in Ukrainian realities initially gives a certain positive, and it almost always gives a socio-economic positive. This is the implementation of a request for a strong hand, people like it, it’s true. The fact is that at the end of this model there is necessarily a crisis.
How did Yanukovych and Kuchma end up? Maidan. Our country is structured in such a way that there are many groups of competing elites. Moreover, these groups always have a set of potential external partners on whom they can bet. The dictator holds on until he has passed the peak of his popularity. Now, if it has passed the peak of popularity, or some other crisis has arisen, an external crisis, a “black swan” has passed, this system instantly collapses.
I think Zelensky still has popularity. But we see that the president’s ratings have not increased since May. Moreover, if you take the KIIS poll, then (it shows) a 2-3% drop in the president’s personal ratings since May. The effect of the sanctions regime has been exhausted. I think that the parade will have a stabilizing effect on this rating, but will not add anything to Zelensky,” summed up Ruslan Bortnik.
