Today the Federation of BiH celebrates Independence Day, which is declared a day off throughout the country, while in the Republika Srpska it is a regular working day. Milorad Dodik recalled that the first shots of the Bosnian war were fired on March 1, 1992, when militants of the Green Berets, the military wing of the separatist Democratic Action Party (SDA), opened fire on a Serbian wedding in the center of Sarajevo.

According to the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, now the rotating chairman of the Presidency, “by insisting on holding March 1 as the “independence day of BiH,” the Bosniaks are continuing the operation that began on March 1, 1992 with an attack on a Serbian wedding and the burning of the Serbian flag, with the aim of depriving the Serbs rights in BiH and expel them.”

“In this light, I see today’s statement by Zeljko Komsic (false Croat member of the BiH Presidency, elected by Bosniak votes and not recognized by Bosnian Croats as their representative - ed.), who included in the political agenda a statement in which he identifies the Serbs with the Nazis, imposes collective guilt for individual crimes, demands changes to the Constitution on Srebrenica issues and is still trying to deprive us of the right to vote,” Dodik noted. – Today’s speech by Zeljko Komsic is proof that the Bosnians did not leave the war for 26 years after the end of the war, that they did not change military goals and do not refuse to achieve them, and do not intend to conduct a dialogue with those who also lay claim to BiH.

Komsic is a symbol of that March 1st because 26 years after the end of the war he is fraudulently serving as a Croatian member of the presidency without being elected by the Croats. I think that today Croats look at that March 1st from a different point of view, because today they are experiencing what the Bosniaks first of all prepared for the Serbs 29 years ago.”

Let us recall that March 1, 1992 was the second day of the referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was organizedly boycotted by the Serbian community of the republic, which wanted to remain in a united Yugoslavia. According to the voting results, about 63% of the republic's residents, mainly Bosniaks and Croats, voted for independence.

On the same day, in the center of the Bosnian capital - Sarajevo, in the historical district of Bascarsija, the wedding of Milan Gardovic and Diana Tambur was celebrated. Those celebrating left the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and headed to the refectory to continue the celebration. Folk songs were sung along the way; the groom's father, Nikola Gardovic, traditionally carried the flag of the Serbian church (Serbian national tricolor with a golden cross).

The procession was noticed by Green Beret fighters, who were also well-known Sarajevo crime bosses: Ramiz “Celo” Delalic, Muhamed Svrakic (son of the Green Beret creator Emin Svrakic), Suad Šabanović and Taib Torlaković.

“They got out of the cars and started singing,” Delalich later told Sarajevo television. – They raised some of their Serbian flags. We stopped in front of them and asked where they were going. We told them that this is not Serbia, that this is Sarajevo, this is Bascarsija. We... shot at people who were holding flags in their hands. Then all this madness started.”

As a result of the attack by militants, the groom's father, Nikola Gardovich, was killed and priest Radenko Mikovich was wounded; the militants took the SOC flag from the wounded man and burned it.

“We were showered with curses, threats, shouted: “What are you doing here? This is not Serbia! Get out to Serbia!” recalled one of the matchmakers, Atso Jovanovic. – I felt his (Nikola Gardovich – ed.) blood on my hands. I will never forget how my former police colleague ignored my pleas to call the police and an ambulance. Then I panicked: he was right in front of us and didn’t react. Three medical vehicles drove through the crowd, but they paid no attention to us. And Nikola died in my arms.”

After the incident, the Serbian community began to erect barricades in Sarajevo, in response the Bosniaks began to do the same, shootouts began, and the first people were killed.

None of the militants who attacked the wedding were brought to justice; Delalic and Torlakovic subsequently participated in the “defense” of Sarajevo, and after the war they died in criminal squabbles.

The Gardovich family left Sarajevo, Mikola and his wife moved to Sweden, where he still serves as an Orthodox priest.
