Bosnia is trying to impose crowds of refugees on Republika Srpska
The Bosnian government is trying to blame the Serbs for its own inability to solve the problem of migrants from North Africa and the Middle East.
Security Minister with a technical mandate, Dragan Mektic, claims that he was unable to organize the construction of new migration centers due to the position of Republika Srpska (part of Bosnia and Herzegovina).
“Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it currently exists, is not able to deal with any problem. We were looking for a place to locate these centers. The problem was in the Republika Srpska - it refused, not a single local community is giving us a place to build,” Mektic said.
The Islamist Party of Democratic Action of Bakir Izetbegovic called for ignoring the opinion of the Serbs on the issue of locating centers for migrants.
Bosnian Serbs point out that the construction of migration centers in the Republika Srpska threatens a new expulsion of Serbian repatriates who have returned to their homes.
“Behind all this is another attempt to jeopardize the interests of Serbs in areas they have inhabited for centuries,” said the Democratic People’s Union party, led by Marko Pavic.
Previously, migrants trying to reach Europe along the so-called Balkan route first went to Serbia and then crossed the border into Hungary or Croatia.
In 2015-2016, Hungarians and Croats essentially closed their borders with Serbia. Thus, the flow of refugees was redirected to Bosnia and from there to Croatia, which is a member of the EU.
The longest section of the border with Croatia runs through the territory of Republika Srpska.
The European Union allocated 13 million euros for the construction of centers for migrants, but Minister Mektic allocated 3 million of these funds for the maintenance of the police and paid for the rent of several accommodation facilities.
In places where refugees are accommodated, mass fights and killings constantly occur.
