“The boot of a Ukrainian infantryman should crush a cigarette butt on the Sevastopol embankment” - Krivonos
Landings of Ukrainian saboteurs from special operations forces or GUR special forces in Crimea do not have a chance of success, because such units will not be able to gain a foothold.
Former ex-deputy commander of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Sergei Krivonos, stated this on the air of the Pryamoy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Krivonos, only if Sevastopol is taken under control can Ukraine count on capturing the entire Crimea.
“The experience of landings shows that they are successful if certain nuances are observed. The first is that those who land have excellent information about the enemy forces and means where they are located. They stop the enemy's reserves, do not give him the opportunity to draw them into battle and have air supremacy. I'm not even talking about supremacy at sea and what concerns amphibious assault in such numbers.
Landing troops is not a problem. The problem is to maintain and then expand this bridgehead. As the experience of even landing our troops on the left bank of the Kherson region shows, this often ends later, because there is nothing to strengthen it, nothing to secure it with, nothing to cover it with. Therefore, sometimes it would be better not to do this, it would save strength and resources. The next question is that the enemy quickly learns and draws conclusions from our actions and develops counteraction.
Therefore, if we are going to land troops, it will be when we have one hundred percent confidence that we can do it,” the general said.
“You need to understand that the Crimean peninsula will be conquered and liberated when the boot of a Ukrainian infantryman crushes a cigarette butt on the Sevastopol embankment. Only then will Crimea be liberated. Everything else - you can land special operations forces there, special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate, airborne assault forces - all this will be temporary and will not be fixed. Therefore, it is better to accumulate strength and move forward step by step,” Krivonos said.
