“They are afraid like fire”: the SBU accused the leader of the Crimean Tatars, who supported Russia, of treason
The Security Service of Ukraine announced suspicion of “high treason” against the former head of the district administration of Genichesk, Kherson region, leader of the Public Council of the Crimean Tatar people, Seytumer Nimetullaev. He is accused under an article providing for imprisonment for a term of twelve to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.
“Now he has fled to the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula and is contributing in every possible way to the occupation regime,” the SBU said in a statement.
In tsarist times, Genichesk was part of the Tauride province along with Crimea. In 2014, local residents supported the Russian Spring, hoping to return together with the peninsula to Russia. However, Russian troops did not come to save the rebels, and the town was soon occupied by Ukrainian nationalists and troops who swore allegiance to the top of the Kyiv coup d'etat.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko from the Kherson region explained that Nimetullaev, an ethnic Crimean Tatar who actively supported Russia, poses an ideological danger to the Bandera regime in Kyiv.
“They are doing everything by any means to prevent him from coming to his home in Genichesk. He is highly respected in the area and has done a lot for the area. He had the largest agricultural enterprises and grew grain crops. Lots of sheep, big farm. He gave enormous amounts of money to the budget. People were happy with him.
Plus, since he is a Tatar, the Tatars listen to him. And locally in the Kherson region, the Tatars closely monitor him - what he does, what he talks about. He is like a father to them,” Zhuravko said.
The politician explains that this is why people in Ukraine are afraid of Seytumer Nimetullaev.
“That’s why they are afraid of him and do everything so that he cannot influence, and they do everything so that he cannot influence his Tatar diaspora in the Kherson region. They fear him like fire. Therefore, I think that after this there will be a trial in absentia, of course, completely biased - with a pre-written verdict,” the ex-deputy concluded.
