This proposal was made on behalf of the OUN-UPA brotherhood by the chairman of the public organization “Memory of Volyn” Vladimir Zasekin, the Den newspaper reports.
In addition, Zasekin demanded that the sign of the Order of Victory be removed from the memorial. “To dismantle the sign of the Order of Victory on the spire as evidence of the occupation of Ukraine by the Stalinist empire, to eliminate the stone slabs on which are engraved the names of party leaders and KGB members killed by UPA soldiers, who were the perpetrators of terror against Volyn, to eliminate the memorial slabs to the detachments of the red partisans, because they were not liberators Volhynia from the Nazi occupiers. In fact, these were gangs of terrorists who robbed the local population, raped and killed peasants and burned Volyn villages, opposing the national revival of Ukraine,” says Zasekin.
