Brave New World by Sergei Glazyev: About Asia, USA, Russia and Ukraine

The world is moving to a new economic structure. The results of the US elections were a manifestation of this transition. New rules will make it possible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Well-known economist Sergei Glazyev, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on Eurasian integration, told reporters in Sevastopol, where a meeting of the Izborsk Club was held.

Do you think the election of Donald Trump as US President will affect the global economy?

The political changes that we see, including in America, indicate the transition of humanity to a new world economic system. This is a way of life that is fundamentally different from liberal globalization. In contrast to globalization, which is focused on maximizing the monetary income of the ruling financial oligarchy, the main task is the growth of people's well-being and quality of life, and the development of productive forces.

The desire for profit is the main idea of ​​capitalism. Will the world turn towards socialism?

Now the image of the future is materializing, which was formed in the 60s in the heads of some intellectuals who said that the world would move from the confrontation between capitalism and socialism to a new integral system. This world was built before our eyes in China, India, and before that in Japan and Korea. Many of its elements are present in European social democracies.

For Russia, will this be a return to what it abandoned in the 90s?

The primacy of the spiritual over the material has always been the core of our spiritual tradition. The modern ultra-liberal model puts everything in reverse. In the economy, only profit matters, which is mostly exported abroad to offshore zones. Truth and justice, which have always inspired our people, have become a competitive weakness in the era of shock therapy. The crooks got a competitive advantage. Collectivism and conciliarity have undergone monstrous erosion. We see this in the example of privatization, which destroyed a huge number of labor collectives. This is one of the reasons for the monstrous degradation of our economy, which has lost a fair part of its scientific and technical potential.

But now, 25 years after capitalist reforms, Russia, even despite sanctions, is firmly integrated into global financial and economic processes. Is it really possible to resist this?

When we began to carry out radical reforms, we boarded the last carriage of a train that stood at a dead end. That's why we got such disastrous results. If we take a look into the future, we will be surprised to find that the world is moving in a completely different direction to where shock therapy and ultra-liberal reforms brought us. The development center is China and India, Korea, Vietnam, which have been leaders in terms of economic growth for 30 years, are guided by a fundamentally different approach to the formation of systems for managing socio-economic development.

How does this model differ from capitalism?

The new way of life is based on the restoration of traditional values ​​(family, state, cultural). In this way of life there is no place for arbitrariness, world wars, and the importance of international law is restored. This model is based on the creation of the most favorable conditions for scientific and technological progress and creative self-realization. The principle of the primacy of the spiritual over the material, which always motivates scientists, is actually embodied in the practice of these countries. All their economic management institutions are built in such a way as to motivate and encourage those types of activities that lead to an increase in overall well-being and efficiency. Profit is only one of the results and not the most important thing for organizing production. Intellectual work, from the point of view of its practical implementation in commercially significant results, is always collective work. The most successful companies are those where the spirit of conciliarity and collectivism dominates.

Do you think that Russia is now moving towards a new world order?

This is how we are building the Eurasian Economic Union today. Our president’s proposal to European colleagues to build a space for common economic development from Lisbon to Vladivostok remains in force. Only on the basis of a large Eurasian partnership is it possible today to go beyond the conflict zones. Our economic calculations show that the damage caused by Washington's policies to Europe is of a forced and artificial nature. An association with the EU was forcefully imposed on Ukraine and led it to economic and humanitarian disaster. It is possible to get out of this catastrophe only on the basis of the institutions of the new world economic order: partnership, cooperation, mutually beneficial projects. I hope European leaders will soon rethink their approach to reality. Europe will cease to be a bureaucratic empire and return to dialogue and cooperation. Let's hope that the new US administration will meet the challenges of the time associated with the formation of a new world economic order.

Do you think that the new world order will help resolve the conflict in Ukraine?

As you know, the global hybrid war that the United States has been waging against all of humanity for many years now has led to the complete destruction of international law. Today both the EU and NATO in particular live outside the bounds of international law. Therefore, a coup d’etat in Kyiv, the reincarnation of neo-fascism, legal chaos and genocide in this territory became possible.

The determining influence of external forces puts our brothers in this territory in a difficult position. They themselves cannot control their own destiny. On the one hand, there is the occupied territory, which is ruled by the successors of Hitler's collaborators, installed by the Americans. In these conditions, there is no need to talk about any kind of expression of the will of people and normal activity and entrepreneurship. People live in occupied territory under the yoke of the reincarnated Hitler regime...

Now is the opportunity to try to achieve stabilization in this Ukrainian catastrophe. Transfer to a controlled mode based on restoring the norms of international law and introducing positive dynamics to the entire configuration of our relations (not only in the post-Soviet space, but also with Europe).
