Bregovic and the Albanian city of Korca ignored the hysteria of Kosovo radicals
Information has appeared on the website of composer and musician Goran Bregovic that he will perform on August 22 at the Beer Festival in the Albanian city of Korca.
Similar information appeared on the festival website; the organizers reported that a concert by the famous composer would close the event, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After the Kosovo media launched campaign against Bregovic's concert in the Albanian city, a number of announced Albanian artists refused to participate in the festival, some for ideological reasons, and others, yielding to pressure from radicals on social networks.
“The residents of Korça are not indifferent to the pain and suffering of the people of their blood and their nation! Against! – representatives of the city municipality answered the Serbophobes from Kosovo. – Korca and the people of Korca simply refuse with dignity and wisdom to fall into the trap of political manipulation regarding our holiday, in which artists from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden, England, Italy, France, the USA, and now Bosnian Serb."
In turn, festival organizers note that every corner of the world has welcomed Bregovic, who has crossed the borders of the Balkans for years, and (Albanian capital) Tirana also welcomed him during a concert in 2006.
Let us recall that the Kosovo media and nationalists raised hysteria over the performance of composer Goran Bregovic at the Beer Festival in the Albanian city of Korca. Bregovic is accused of having “anti-Albanian views” and that his compositions inspired Serbian soldiers during the Yugoslav counter-terrorist operation in Kosovo. At the same time, in Albania itself, a similar position of Kosovar fellow tribesmen of support not found.
The town of Korça is one of the few in Albania where the local Orthodox population predominates, accounting for 6% of all citizens of the country, predominantly professing Islam. Also living in the town are Orthodox Macedonians (Western Bulgarians), Aromanians and Greeks.

Bregovic himself, who gained international fame thanks to his collaboration in the 90s with film director Emir Kusturica, initially positions himself as a man of peace and a Yugoslav: he was born in Bosnia, his father is Croatian, his mother is Serbian, his wife is Bosnian, and he himself lives in Paris.
In his music he uses folkloric elements from all Balkan peoples, including Gypsies, Bulgarians and Romanians, as well as the Hungarians neighboring the peninsula.
The hatred of Albanian and Bosniak separatists towards him is connected with the soundtrack to the film Underground by Emir Kusturica, which became the anthem of Yugoslavism.
A number of tracks based on it, such as “Kalashnikov” and “Mesecina” (Moonlight), made in the spirit of the music of gypsy brass bands, became popular among Serbian patriots in the 90s.
