Brexit has negative consequences for Ukraine
The UK's exit from the European Union will have a significant impact on Ukraine's European integration aspirations.
Ukrainian political experts interviewed by the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe” came to this conclusion.
Thus, Egor Kiyan, an analyst at the International Center for Advanced Studies, says that Brexit will be a strong blow to the unity of the European Union, and with Britain’s exit from the EU, centrifugal tendencies will receive serious arguments.
“Actually, the impact of Brexit is already quite noticeable even in Ukraine, where the question of the advisability of joining a structure from which such a developed state as Great Britain is trying to distance itself is beginning to be raised. The personal interests and positions of specific EU members will also become more pronounced. And if before this Ukraine managed to build relations with the EU as an institution, then it is quite possible that now it will have to look for more personalized approaches - and this is a much more difficult task,” Kiyan fears.
A similar opinion is shared by international affairs expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Ilya Kusa, according to whom the weakening of the EU opens up opportunities for the growth of external influences in it, which Russia will take advantage of.
“Moreover, Great Britain, which has always seriously opposed Russia in the international arena, will be immersed in its own problems, and Brexit has long become a deeply internal British problem, a question of national identity. Therefore, she will not have time to put pressure on Russia and participate in resolving the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. In conditions where our position in the European Union is not very strong both in terms of the information narrative and specific positions, Brexit will definitely result in negative political consequences for us,” Kusa concluded.
As PolitNaivgator reported, in Britain politely sent Ukraine, offering visa-free travel to London after Brexit
