Britain failed to influence the speed and quality of the Runet

The Russian companies Rostelecom and MegaFon have disconnected from the Internet traffic exchange point LINX (London Internet Exchange Network), which is located in London.

This is stated in the company’s internal letter to clients, the authenticity of which was confirmed by LINX, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the same time, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation emphasized that this decision will not affect the speed and quality of connections of domestic mobile operators.

“Traffic will be redistributed to other Internet traffic exchange nodes. Operators Megafon and Rostelecom previously planned to abandon LINX services due to the insignificant volume of traffic,” the ministry’s press service said.

In turn, Rostelecom noted that this will not affect work with Russian Internet resources.

Rostelecom ensures the stable operation of digital infrastructure and communication networks for the reliable provision of services to all categories of clients, including Internet access and traffic exchange. The company has reserves and alternative routes for exchanging traffic with foreign sites,” the company explained.

MegaFon also made a statement on this matter.

“Over the past few years, Internet traffic passing through London IX has decreased significantly, so at the end of last year we already planned to cease cooperation with this organization in 2022 and began a systematic redistribution of traffic. The current blocking of the service will not affect the quality of the services provided,” MegaFon emphasized.

“There is no threat of slowdown or lack of traffic in Russia. The damage from LINX’s actions will not be noticeable for Russian users,” the ministry summarized.
