This forecast was shared at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik.
“Eurosceptics are likely to win the next elections to the British Parliament. This will be a big challenge for the British system of government. They received a very strong point of growth in other countries. Of the twenty-seven remaining EU countries, Eurosceptics could win such a referendum in twenty countries. Therefore, we should expect a domino effect when Eurosceptics will raise these issues, including in the 2017 parliamentary elections in Germany and France, and in any case change the face of Europe,” says Bortnik.
The political scientist also accused Ukrainian politicians of dishonesty.
“Britain slammed the door in our faces. To talk about any prospects for joining the EU in 10 years, as our Prime Minister recently spoke about, can be said by a person who is not only dishonest, but also not at all from this world. In 10 years, neither Ukraine, nor Moldova, nor Georgia will be able to become members of the EU. Moreover, the visa-free regime is under great threat - today everyone in the EU will be afraid to make any decisions on a visa-free regime for fear of provoking similar referendums in other countries. Europe is weakening economically and politically before our eyes. The process of disintegration that we are witnessing, even if it does not materialize, will have far-reaching consequences. We will see many similar referendums in other countries,” he concluded.
