Britain wanted to start a war with Russia - defector
The US proposal to expel Russian diplomats in response to the poisoning of the British spy Skripal became an alternative to the real war that London wanted.
This statement was made on TV channel 112 by former State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev, who fled to Ukraine to escape criminal prosecution, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The UK asked for a different kind of solidarity - they wanted NATO solidarity. And this was the first appeal they made. Obviously, things were moving towards the use of Article 5 on mutual assistance, because Great Britain considers this an act of military aggression, that this is the use of chemical warfare agents on its territory, as a result of which British citizens suffered. Thus, this is precisely an act of war,” said the defector.
According to him, there is no unity in NATO, and a number of countries have made it clear that they will block the corresponding decision.
“At a minimum, Germany, Türkiye and a number of other NATO countries. Therefore, the Americans offered such a palliative - let us do an action that will be a bright symbolic slap in the face, but we will not deepen the potential split in the North Atlantic Alliance,” Ponomarev asserts.
