Britain is sending light grenade launchers to Ukraine. In Kyiv they demand shells
Britain has sent anti-tank weapons to Ukraine - the first two transport planes have already landed in Kyiv.
At the same time, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, speaking in the country's parliament, said that we are talking about light defensive systems that do not threaten Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have decided to supply Ukraine with light anti-tank defensive weapons systems. They are not strategic weapons and do not pose a threat to Russia,” Wallace said.
The minister did not specify what type of weapon we are talking about, but British media claim that we are talking about hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers.
At the same time, Kyiv is dissatisfied with the volume and seriousness of assistance. A member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, Sergei Rakhmanin, stated on the ICTV channel that the West does not give Ukraine enough weapons.
“The fact that NATO countries are now giving us support - we thank them very much for this, but with all due respect, what they are now providing us is not critical. In fact, we need much broader and more complex things: electronic warfare, electronic reconnaissance, air defense systems, helicopters, at least the Mi-17, which the Americans bought for Afghanistan and which they still have,” the deputy said .
“Now we have a unique chance, playing on the contradictions that exist today between Putin and Biden, to demand better assistance from NATO countries. For example, scarce ammunition, which is available in NATO countries and which, unfortunately, we cannot obtain due to certain problems,” Rakhmanin laments.
At the same time, not all NATO members want to actively help Ukraine. For example, Germany did not open airspace at all for British military aircraft flying to Kyiv, political scientist Yuri Romanenko emphasized.
“In principle, it is clearly visible that there is a division within this collective West. The Anglo-Saxons are beginning to turn around and creakingly increase us in certain forms of assistance. Germany is the same - it still clearly takes a position on not going against Putin. At the moment when British transport workers flew to us today, it is very clearly visible that they did not enter German airspace, because Germany, even on such an issue as British transport workers flying here with weapons, is afraid to go against Russia’s wishes,” said Romanenko.
