Britain “in boorish form” refused to issue entry visas to members of the Russian delegation, which was supposed to take part in the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Birmingham on July 2-6.

Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov announced this today at a meeting of the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Such discriminatory actions by the British side against the Russian parliamentary delegation are a direct and gross violation of international law... Based on the fact that the participation of the Russian delegation in the annual summer session of the OSCE PA is not possible, the head of the delegation of the Federal Assembly sent a statement to the leadership and all members of the Assembly that preventing Russians from entering seriously undermines the authority of both the event itself and the entire delegation as a whole. And all decisions made in our absence, including the final declaration, will not be recognized by us as legitimate,” Dzhabarov said.

He did not rule out that Russia could be expelled from the OSCE PA.

“Based on the aggressive rhetoric addressed to Russia by representatives of individual OSCE PA delegations, as well as individual resolutions submitted for consideration, there is a possibility that the issue of expelling the Russian delegation from the Assembly will be raised. And although the procedures of the OSCE PA, unlike PACE, do not contain a mechanism for expelling national delegations from their composition, in the context of the current gross violations of regulatory norms, the intention of some of our opponents is obvious to deprive the Russian delegation of the opportunity to fully and fully work in the OSCE PA. But participation in this organization provides an opportunity to promote our approaches. And we consider it inappropriate to abandon this to please our enemies,” Dzhabarov said.

He proposed to establish contacts with delegations of the CSTO Delegation countries in order to resist, showing “perseverance and composure.”

For her part, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko proposed to obtain from the OSCE a ban on holding sessions in countries that do not allow delegations to participate.

“We never cease to be amazed that this Western policy, aimed at destroying international norms and rules of world trade, is also aimed at destroying institutions that perform very important functions and missions. The OSCE's activities should be aimed at creating a single and indivisible security system in Europe. We see that not everyone is interested in this. Such discriminatory actions towards Russia completely discredit this organization. We are faced with yet another chaos. It is necessary to achieve a decision from the OSCE to ban holding events in those countries that do not guarantee all delegations,” Matvienko suggested.
