Briton Truss called on Europeans to fork out for a new Marshall Plan for Ukraine
Ukraine needs a new Marshall Plan - a program to help rebuild after the war.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated this at a conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Lugano, Switzerland.
“We supported Ukraine in the war, and we will continue to support the Ukrainian government's plan for reconstruction and development. This should be a new Marshall Plan for Ukraine, and it should be managed by Ukraine itself. We will push for major investment and stimulate economic growth. Because it is absolutely necessary that we launch the Ukrainian economy,” said the British minister.
According to her, Europeans should be able to support the return of Ukrainians to Ukraine and give people hope for the future. And also Western countries should give them the means so that they can support themselves.
“The UK has committed to holding a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in 2023,” she also said during her speech.
According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, the reconstruction plan for Ukraine is estimated by Kiev at $750 billion. Previously, Zelensky came up with a figure of 600 billion dollars. The EU itself is still discussing the possibility of spending 500 billion euros on Ukraine.
