The British press accused Russia of trying to freeze Europe
The risk of the West launching another package of sanctions against the Russian economy remains high.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Associate Professor of the Russian University of Economics. Plekhanov Oleg Cherednichenko, assessing the latest statements of Western propaganda blaming Russia today for the gas shortage and its high price on the European market
According to him, the economies of a number of European countries and the UK were simply not ready for the current gas price environment.
“A number of Western politicians and economists saw one of the options for getting out of this situation by accusing Russia of trying to manipulate European energy security, without forgetting to traditionally mention “poor, unfortunate” Ukraine, which is in vain defending itself from the “aggressor country.” However, this verbal puzzle does not quite add up: Russia constantly claims that the launch of Nord Stream 2 will only stabilize the situation on the European energy market, while part of this transit through Ukraine is still planned to be preserved,” the economist said “ Independent newspaper."
He added that accusations against Russia also look strange because Europe itself understands the economic feasibility of launching Nord Stream 2, at least based on the fact that, in addition to the emerging stability of supplies, it also acts as a tool for reducing logistics costs, and this is a direct path to stabilizing prices on the market.
However, the expert believes that even with all the positive components of the SP-2 launch, the West still retains an “ace in its hole”, the use of which cannot be ruled out at almost any time.
“The risk of initiating and launching another package of sanctions against individuals, companies or the Russian economy as a whole remains,” Cherednichenko believes.
The British press recently warned of possible heating shutdowns this winter due to a shortage of gas fuel. Thus, The Telegraph newspaper wrote that the Russian Federation is allegedly artificially provoking a crisis by limiting gas supplies to Europe, which makes it impossible to replenish greatly depleted gas reserves before the onset of winter.
“The United Kingdom is not the target of this geostrategic maneuver, but it too may suffer as it has reduced gas storage capacity to a minimum level to reduce costs,” the British newspaper wrote.
