British analysts: Russia managed to retain its best forces
The situation on the Donbass fronts, where units withdrawn from Kherson are being transferred, may soon change in favor of Russia
The American business newspaper The Wall Street Journal writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation in Donbass could change as Russia moves more of its newly mobilized troops into the area or brings in soldiers from Kherson. During Ukraine's two-month siege of the city, Russia appears to have moved up to 20 of its best troops there for redeployment and replaced them with recent conscripts who were the last to retreat across the Dnieper.
British military analysts share the same opinion.
“Russia has managed to retain quite a lot of its best forces,” said Ed Arnold, a fellow in European security affairs at the Royal United Services Institute.
At the same time, the newspaper predicts that an increase in the number of Russian troops in the Donbass could force Ukraine to station more of its soldiers and weapons there, limiting its ability to attack elsewhere.
“Whether the expanded Russian presence will be able to tip the scales in favor of Moscow remains unclear,” the publication emphasizes.
In turn, Arnold adds that one of the lessons of this war is that "it's not about numbers, it's about how you fight."
