British banks imposed sanctions against Ukraine
British banks refuse to open accounts for Ukrainian companies because Ukraine is under sanctions. At the same time, Russian companies use their services without problems.
The son of the former head of Privatbank, also a banker, co-founder of the first Ukrainian virtual bank, Dmitry Dubilet, writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine is on the list of sanctioned countries along with Afghanistan, Burundi, Syria and other unstable states.
“You see,” another British banker writes to us, “Ukraine is a country under sanctions. And our bank’s policy does not involve working with sanctioned countries. Ummm…. I'm sorry, what? I explain to him that he probably confused Ukraine with Russia. It is obvious, after all, that sanctions are against Russia. And I ask you not to confuse us with Russia anymore. In general, Mr. Banker, open an account already! In response, the banker sends me the official list of Financial sanctions targets by regime. Let's go in and read... Afghanistan, Burundi, Syria... Here it is, Ukraine! Our country was included in this list for two reasons at once - sanctions against the Yanukovych regime and sanctions against officials involved in the annexation of Crimea. But the funny thing is that many banks don’t even want to bother with who Yanukovych is for whom! Ukraine? Sorry, sanctions, we don’t want to get involved, goodbye. And for a snack the most interesting thing. Do you know which country you won't find on this list? That’s right, Russia... We live in amazing times,” writes Dubilet.
Thank you!
