British scientists have proven that Russian forests do not absorb, but emit greenhouse gases
Russia’s hopes of fitting into the “green agenda” promoted by the West and selling carbon dioxide quotas at the expense of natural resources did not materialize.
The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, stated this on the radio station “Moscow Speaks,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are accustomed to the fact that Russia is the right lung of the planet. There are a huge number of forests here. This seems to us an obvious fact. But when you come to “civilized people” with this agenda, and it seems to you that you have a trump card in your pocket, they tell you: your forests are not managed, so all your absorption effects will not be counted,” Simonov said.
According to him, Russia will still have to pay extra to the West for its natural resources.
“British scientists will prove to you in all seriousness that your forests are not the same - they do not absorb. It's the same with swamps. They will tell you that your unmanaged forest ends up in swamps, rots and releases methane. And methane, when released uncontrolled, is more dangerous than CO2. They will calculate so much for you that you will still have to deal with these swamps and forests,” the expert added.
He believes that Russia should proclaim that hydrocarbons will remain the basis of the world energy balance at least until 2050, and classify the “green agenda” as extremist organizations, like LGBT.
