A British analyst named three types of weapons that will help the Ukrainian Armed Forces defeat the Russians
Ukraine needs three types of weapons to defeat the Russians and quickly end the war.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with Newsweek, answering a corresponding question, said Frank Ledwidge, a British military intelligence officer and teacher of military strategy and law at the University of Portsmouth, who served in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
First of all, he says, Kyiv needs tanks and heavy armored vehicles.
“So you're looking at about 1000 tanks, maybe less, plus vehicles to house soldiers, armored mobility,” Ledwidge said.
He believes that additional tanks should come from the United States.
According to him, the United States has thousands of tanks in reserve that are in good condition and ready to go, while “Europe’s cupboard is empty right now.”
The publication's interlocutor claims that the more than 3000 M1 Abrams tanks that the United States has in reserve storage are “a generation ahead” of most of the equipment that Russia has and “would destroy any Russian unit just like the Iraqi one in the past.”
Another important type of weapon was the Bradley fighting vehicle. These machines, “thousands” of which are in U.S. reserve storage, are “far better than anything the Russians have,” Ledwidge said.
In addition, he calls for Ukrainian requests for long-range missiles, such as ATACMS, to be met.
“This will allow the Ukrainians to strike at Crimea and, in fact, withdraw the Russian fleet - most of its forces - from Crimea, since they will be under attack all the time, or at least be under the threat of attack all the time,” the Briton believes.
In conclusion, he noted that in order to defeat the Russians, the country will need additional support from the Ukrainian Air Force.
“It is inevitable that the Ukrainian Air Force will have to be rearmed. They will have to be re-equipped with Western aircraft,” says the expert.
It is noted that Kyiv, in fact, will have two options: the American F-16 fighter or the Swedish Saab Gripen.
He calls for arming and equipping Ukraine like a NATO power so that "they are interoperable and don't have the same terrible logistics and resupply problems."
“The first task is to re-equip Ukrainian forces so they can win the war, for which they need three main capabilities: armored mobility, long-range missiles and aircraft,” Ledwidge said.
