The scientific director of the German-Russian Forum, Alexander Rahr, writes about this on the pages of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, noting that today the EU is afraid that other old members of the European Union may follow the example of Great Britain.
“In Europe, they realized with horror that if Britain began to live better without the Brussels bureaucracy, this would trigger the process of other countries leaving the EU,” the political scientist emphasizes. – There is also confusion in Eastern Europe. The Eastern European and Baltic countries expected simple prosperity from their accession to the EU, but now their hope for a bright future under a pan-European roof may be in question, since the Union itself is now experiencing a severe crisis. It is clear that there will be no further expansion of the EU. After the UK leaves, Moldova and Ukraine will not join the EU. The Union will no longer have the strength or political will to accept them, and this will greatly hit the consciousness of Europeans, who believed that the European Union could expand indefinitely.”
