British military analyst admitted the deplorable state of the country's armed forces
Britain's armed forces have atrophied in the three decades since the end of the Cold War, lacking personnel and ammunition, half of which London has given to Ukraine.
British military analyst, Colonel Stuart Crawford, stated this on the TalkTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Under this government they left our military with missiles and launchers that don't work, we have aircraft carriers that are stuck in ports. They spent our money incredibly poorly. This has now been increased by 0,5%. How can this change anything? – asked the broadcaster.
«Our UK armed forces have atrophied over the last two or three decades as we took advantage of the so-called peace dividend at the end of the Cold War.. But now it has come back to bite us and we are experiencing severe shortages in almost every department and we need to do something about it... The threat from revanchist Russia is very real, and we really need to do something about it, and we need to make it visible,” the colonel said.
«We must look at our stockpiles of materiel, stockpiles of ammunition. Because one of the big lessons learned from Ukraine is that all our estimates and rates of ammunition consumption in peacetime are completely off the mark. AND We have already sent probably 50% of our weapons to Ukraine. And this must be restored to our reserves.", Crawford said.
“You're absolutely right about our depleted forces. I remember when I was a boy, I saw army recruiting shops along the main street. They came to our schools, they came to our college and university to recruit people. I don't see it anymore. Part of the reason why people, especially young people, don't want to join the army and especially the navy, is that the salary is not great, the salary is not very great when you come out of the army. “All you hear over and over again is that army veterans can’t find work after they’ve served and given their lives for it,” agreed the show’s host.
