Brussels is recovering from the shock received after the signing of the Turkish Stream agreement
European politicians are opposed to the European economy, writes Deputy Director General of the Institute of National Energy Alexander Frolov in Izvestia in an article dedicated to the signing of the intergovernmental Russian-Turkish agreement on the Turkish Stream.

“The most important thing is that our country will receive at least a partial replacement for the Ukrainian transit corridor, which carries with it both political risks and the risks of purely technical failures due to extreme wear and tear of the “pipe,” the author emphasizes. – Actually, the efforts of Gazprom and its European buyers are aimed at solving this problem. Turkish Stream will increase the reliability of supplies. Within a week, perhaps, we should expect loud statements from representatives of the European leadership who have recovered from the shock after the signing of the intergovernmental agreement. However, what it can do with a gas pipeline that does not go through the territory of the European Union, other than expressing traditional doubts about the prospects of the project, its economic feasibility and political reliability, is unclear.”
“But it is clear that the confrontation between European politicians and the European economy will not end here, since Gazprom and its partners still have to resolve the issue of gas supplies to the north of Italy (one of the main consumers according to the South Stream plans), which will become relevant after 2019 of the year. Perhaps the problem will be solved through a joint project with Greece, but it is in this field that the European Commission can begin to put spokes in the wheels. It can act boldly and recklessly, since in 2019, when the transit agreement with Ukraine expires and when the “bypass” gas pipelines should be ready, the powers of the current EC members will expire and completely different people will be responsible for the consequences of their actions,” Frolov sums up .
