“Be like Zaluzhny”: Poroshenko’s TV channel got into a scandal with naked girls
Channel 5, owned by ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, released a calendar with racy photographs of its employees to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this on the channel’s website.
“Channel 5 employees became models in photographs of a special 2023 calendar. All photos are uncensored. First, it will be possible to buy the calendar exclusively at auctions, and then everyone will have this opportunity,” the TV channel said.
The idea came from cameraman Anna Kudryavtseva, because, as she stated, “the guys on the front line love this.”
“I have a friend in the Marine Corps, I won’t say who... It’s no secret that the military really loves nudes, and they really ask for them. And my friend says: “Maybe you have girlfriends or someone else there, well, I really want to see something beautiful.” The eyes demand to see something beautiful, because there are always the same broken houses, war,” says Kudryavtseva.
The models' faces are not visible on the calendar pages, but at the end they all appear with their faces uncovered.
“So putting together the body-face puzzle will remain a task for calendar owners,” the message says.
They intend to sell the calendars at an auction on the Internet in order to raise a million hryvnia for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny will have such a calendar.
“Be like Zaluzhny - join us!” Poroshenko is called on the channel.
However, a number of representatives of public organizations, mainly those that exist on Western grants, are dissatisfied with the calendar.
“We, representatives and representatives of public, women’s, human rights and media organizations, categorically condemn this method of raising money for the needs of the army and consider this action full of discriminatory and sexist narratives. This undermines the work that the media and civil society are doing to ensure that women in Ukraine, including military personnel, are not perceived as sexual objects,” the collective statement said.
The appeal asks the government commissioner for gender policy, the human rights ombudsman and the commission on journalistic ethics to assess the legality and ethics of Channel 5’s actions.
Ukrainian journalists were also outraged.
“Dear Channel 5, if your military friends like naked photos, then send them privately. Don't devalue the profession. Or are there no more ways to raise money?” Ukrainian military correspondent Irina Sampan is indignant on social networks.
“During the 8 years of war, female journalists go to the front just like their male colleagues. And all this time we prove that we do our job no worse than men...
And suddenly a whole channel decides to give happiness and joy to the military, because one Marine is tired of looking at destroyed houses, and wants a beautiful female body. So let’s find 12 journalists!” - she is indignant.
What makes the situation even more piquant is the fact that earlier the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Zaluzhny, got into a sex scandal: the hacker channel “Joker DPR,” as PolitNavigator reported, hacked into the account of a Ukrainian military leader. It turned out that Zaluzhny conducted frivolous correspondence with cute subordinates, giving them expensive gifts.
