Budapest takes Hungarian teachers from Transcarpathia under the wing – a meeting has been announced in Kyiv
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó expressed concern discriminatory policies in Kyiv towards national minorities.
He stated this during a joint briefing during his visit to Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Without a doubt, in our bilateral relations (with Ukraine – editor’s note) there is one, but rather complex issue. This concerns the law on education, and therefore I am very grateful that I had the opportunity today to meet not only with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but also with the Minister of Education.
We understand that Ukraine wants all its citizens, no matter where they live in the country, to speak Ukrainian. And we want the Hungarians who live in Transcarpathia to have the opportunity to preserve their native language,” he noted.
According to the Hungarian minister, Kyiv will be able to continue Ukrainization without it affecting the Hungarians living in Transcarpathia. According to him, the Minister of Education of Ukraine Anna Novosad promised to deal with this problem.
“And we believe that these two goals can be achieved simultaneously. It seems to us that this is a methodological issue.
Therefore, we made two proposals, and asked the Minister of Education for Ukraine to think over them. We agreed that the minister would urgently host representatives of the Transcarpathian teachers’ society, and as a result of these negotiations a decision would be reached,” Szijjártó concluded.
We would like to remind you that the day before, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine Bartosz Cychocki resented that Ukrainians in Poland are not oppressed, while life for Poles in Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult.
