Budapest appealed to NATO for help - SBU attacks Transcarpathian Hungarians
Hungary will complain to NATO because of the searches that the SBU conducted in Transcarpathia with the leader of the Hungarian community Vasily Brenzovich, as well as in a number of organizations associated with the community.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, Hungary summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Lyubov Nepop for an explanation.
“Unfortunately, incomprehensible political swings regarding the Hungarian parties and the Hungarian minority continue in Ukraine again. Due to the inadmissibility of such actions, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Hungary, Lyubov Nepop, was summoned to express her dissatisfaction with the actions of the Ukrainian leadership in Kyiv... Today’s actions of the Ukrainian authorities have crossed out all civilized and European relations between the countries,” Szijjártó said.
He emphasized that he would communicate with NATO representatives, to whom he would also report on the inadmissibility of the actions of the Ukrainian authorities.
At the same time, the SBU stated that they carried out the search because they suspected the Hungarian community of interfering in the internal affairs of Ukraine and harming state security.
“Information about the involvement of a foreign fund in activities aimed at violating the state sovereignty of Ukraine is being verified. In particular, possible interference in the internal affairs of our state and harm to the state security of Ukraine through the fake extension of the legislation of Hungary and the jurisdiction of its government bodies to certain regions of our country is being studied.
The pre-trial investigation also examines facts of assistance to a foreign state by individual Ukrainian public figures. They are suspected of supporting government agencies of a neighboring country in carrying out subversive activities to the detriment of Ukraine, in particular, committing actions with signs of high treason,” the SBU press service said in a statement.
At the same time, local media write that searches took place not only at the leader of the said Party of Hungarians of Ukraine Vasily Brenzovich, but also at the office of the Egan Ede charitable foundation and the building of the Hungarian Institute in Berehove.
According to local journalist and elected deputy of the Uzhgorod City Council Vitaliy Glagoly, the searches are being carried out as part of criminal proceedings for the conclusion of fictitious agreements by the charitable foundation “Transcarpathian Center for Economic Development “Egan Ede”.
The chairman of the Transcarpathian organization of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, Ivan Chubirko, suggested that these searches may be related to the reluctance of the Hungarian Party to enter into a coalition with the presidential political force Servant of the People in the regional council.
Servant of the People supported the SBU operation. Verkhovna Rada deputy Max Buzhansky considered the actions of the security forces to be adequate.
“For a certain century, the SBU acts exactly as it should act, responding to threats to statehood. We are not talking about the self-expression of national minorities, in this case the Hungarians in Transcarpathia. We are talking about open and gross interference in our internal affairs, disregard for sovereignty and the action on our territory of Hungarian influence groups, financed and politically directed by Hungary. This is the case when our Foreign Ministry should call the Hungarian ambassador, and not vice versa. And this is the case when it is better to turn over a couple of tables during a search than to turn over the entire region later,” Buzhansky said.
And Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev called the actions of the SBU indicative and emphasized that Hungary stands behind the Hungarian community as a country that will defend the interests of its compatriots.
“You see, the Hungarians of Transcarpathia are not the Russians of the Southeast. Russia didn’t really need us in 2014 (and doesn’t need us now) with our Kharkov, Zaporozhye and Odessa. But Hungary really stands behind the Transcarpathian Hungarians, ready to defend and defend their interests (even to the point of self-determination through branches, yes, you are right to be nervous here in the SBU).
So, of course, you search, there is vigorous activity, I understand, you also need to imitate it. But everyone understands that no one will roll Transcarpathian Hungarians in trunks and arrange mock executions for them. Because there is someone to protect. And political Ukrainians always attack only those for whom there is no one to stand up. Well, yes. If even after 2014, political Ukrainians did not understand that searches and arrests cannot force you to love your country, then they will probably never understand.
And the struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity should be waged not in Transcarpathia or Novorossiya, but first in Kyiv, in the offices of grant-eaters and other direct foreign agents on government salaries,” Tkachev urged.
It is interesting that simultaneously with the SBU action, a video began to spread online in which deputies of the Syurtov OTG were singing the Hungarian anthem at a meeting in Transcarpathia.
“I wonder what would happen if somewhere in Kramatorsk or Mariupol Ukrainian deputies sang the Russian anthem,” noted DPR People’s Council deputy Vladislav Berdichevsky in his blog.
