Budapest puts an end to Kyiv's Euro-Atlantic wishes
Ukraine has again ruined relations with Hungary, and Hungary will again block Ukraine’s steps towards NATO.
Vladimir Volya, a political scientist and international affairs specialist at the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this, commenting on the scandal surrounding the performance of the Hungarian anthem by deputies of the Syurt UTO, searches carried out in Hungarian SBU organizations, and the appearance of a video in which Ukrainian neo-Nazi threatens Hungarians.
“A month ago, [Ukrainian Foreign Minister] Kuleba said that he had agreed with the Hungarian side to “turn the page” after the story of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó’s appeal to the residents of Transcarpathia to vote for the “Party of Hungarians of Ukraine.” Even then it sounded doubtful. And now we can say unequivocally that Hungary will continue such actions towards Ukraine as blocking the NATO-Ukraine commission and so on. Szijjártó has already stated that they will do this.
The Hungarian side focuses on searches conducted by the SBU in Hungarian organizations. Budapest can use the topic of searches to great effect to its advantage. It is clear that this is the activity of official state structures of Ukraine and because of it, Hungary will block further steps by Ukraine towards NATO. Hungary can also use the episode with the distribution of a video in which a man in camouflage and a balaclava threatens deputies,” the political scientist said.
