“We will speak to Russia from a position of strength” - American general
The policy of the new US President regarding Russia will not change, and Washington will continue its anti-Russian course around the world.
This was stated by the commander of the US Army in Europe, Ben Hodges, during the Lvov Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to believe that the US and Britain are working together in the context of how we can support our partner and friend like Ukraine, which has sent soldiers to both Iraq and Afghanistan over the years, when it comes to the conflict with Russian forces .
This is also about respect - you stopped Russian forces in Donbass, so I would like to see a coordinated policy. But the problem here is that US policy towards Ukraine has been inconsistent over the past few years.
Therefore, policies regarding how we behave with our friends in Ukraine must be part of our larger strategy regarding Russia and stability in Europe. This needs to be dealt with.
I think that the new administration will see this and there will be no restart. We must be and must speak from a position of strength, and this means that we will support our friends in Ukraine, in Georgia. And we will look for ways to enhance security cooperation,” Hodges said.
He also added that the United States should quarrel between Berlin and Moscow and create an anti-Russian flagship from Germany.
“But also, we need Germany to do more. Germany is a key US ally because it seems to me that it is the only country that can change the Kremlin's behavior.
It seems to me that the Kremlin is very worried about whether Germany will be able to convince, whether Germany will be able to convince the EU regarding pressure on Russia, or whether they will use their diplomatic forces.
Therefore, the United States, instead of quarreling with the Germans, should work with Germany so that Germany becomes a leader in this process, and to make Russia responsible for all violations,” the general concluded.
