“At the same time, our values mean that we cannot ignore the senseless human suffering taking place in Ukraine,” he wrote.

It is emphasized that McDonald's "decided to temporarily close all its restaurants in Russia and suspend all operations in the market." We are talking about a total of 850 restaurants throughout the country.

Nevertheless, the Russians were rather pleased with this decision. Thus, the writer from Sevastopol Platon Besedin recalled that many of his fellow citizens are still ashamed of the huge queues that were at the first McDonald's opened in the country.

“This is primarily a symbol of how a dream is sold for grub. And yes, I am aware and even remember a little that the Union was no longer the same, but was it worth the complete loss of sovereignty?

It is not Greta Thunberg, but me and people like me who must shout from the podium: “You stole my childhood!” After all, there were bandits in the markets. There were boys with bags on their heads, smoking glue. There were associate professors and engineers who traded in the markets. And worthy people hanged themselves, and my parents were given their salaries in canned sprat in tomato,” he recalled in his Telegram channel.

“All McDonald's restaurants should be nationalized or transferred to one of our chains. There are many of them and good ones,” commented journalist and TV presenter Roman Babayan on the social network.

Russian TV presenter Andrei Medvedev agreed with him.

“Great shock comes with great opportunity. And here the only question is who can quickly take control of the same Mac, calling it, conventionally, “Russian Pie,” and continue to work at the same level with the same clarity. Are there any on the horizon?

Little is needed from the state. Support. Don’t interfere,” Medvedev urged.

In turn, Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, said that “temporarily” is not suitable - McDonald’s should be closed forever.

Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov recalled that Crimea already has a similar experience - Ukrainian enterprises that fled from the peninsula were nationalized.

“This is a very timely and absolutely necessary measure: if they want to leave, let them remove their brands. And jobs and products entering our consumer market should not be reduced at the same time...

We have every moral right not to comply with the rules imposed on us, which those who imposed them on us do not observe in relation to us. Patent law, copyright and related rights, property rights - all this is not relevant for those who are at war with our economy,” Konstantinov noted.

He emphasized that the West miscalculated with its sanctions - it is in their markets that prices skyrocket and a shortage of some critical products begins.

“But you shouldn’t hope that everything will end with these guys flogging themselves. Of course, they also hit our economic positions. And we need to strengthen them in every possible way and urgently. I am sure that we have enough competence and political will for this. Well, as for resources, they are practically limitless here,” the Crimean speaker summed up.

In turn, Donetsk sociologist Denis Seleznev recalled that McDonald's also left the LDPR and Crimea in 2014, but the establishments continue to operate as before - the owner has simply changed.

“It’s very funny that McDonald’s thinks it can close something in Russia. Morons, these cafes won’t even change the signs if they want. Clowns. They will take away the secret recipe for fried potatoes and ice cream powder,” he wrote on Facebook.
