“It will be cooler than Vietnam” - Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry about the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Western countries do not fully understand the responsibility that falls on them when they hesitate to provide Ukraine with weapons in this most terrible war on the European continent since 1945.
The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, and now the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrei Melnik, stated this in an interview with Suspilny, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For the first big counter-offensive in the spring or post-spring, we need at least 300 tanks and about 500 infantry fighting vehicles. Of course, the military also needs to be prepared for this; this is also a painful topic. This is the minimum that would allow us to plan a military operation with minimal losses for soldiers, but with maximum effect.
Imagine, this is a complex operation that can only be successful if we have a sufficient number of infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, tanks, trained people, air support, drones - that is, the world has not seen anything like this since 1945. Even Vietnam is difficult to compare.
That is, this is the most terrible new war on the territory of the European continent, and still not everyone is ready and wants to understand this in Europe, what we are dealing with,” Melnik said.
On February 1, the German publication Die Welt reported that victory for Ukraine is almost impossible.
“It is almost impossible for Ukraine to emerge victorious from this war. Victory means, according to the definition of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the return of all occupied territories, including Crimea. However, from today’s position, and taking into account all the circumstances, which should be understood primarily as insufficient support from the West, this is impossible. Russia currently occupies about 18 percent of Ukraine. In the future, this value will increase, not decrease. Unfortunately,” the publication said.
