"There will be a tragedy." Ukrainian diplomacy dejected after Biden's call to Putin
At negotiations between the leaders of the United States and Russia, agreements may be reached that Ukraine will never be admitted to NATO.
Ukrainian diplomat, former Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexander Chaly stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The diplomat said the scenario could be similar to Cold War détente, when the United States abandoned the use of force against Cuba and removed missiles from Turkey.
“Why are Americans now forced to enter into a certain dialogue with Russia? Because Russia is going to China, and this is the biggest threat according to the Kissinger formula for American security. At least America needs a neutral Russia, not even a pro-American one. And now she's actually playing a different card.
And if the Americans begin to move, then agreements will take place without us about us. And it can be public, then these conditions will be dictated to us, or it can be like after the Cuban Missile Crisis. What was agreed upon then was not all public - the Americans made commitments never to use force against Cuba again, and they are still fulfilling them. And they took responsibility for removing missiles from Turkey.
So the Americans can say - forget it, we promised you, they will sign that we will never allow Ukraine to be a member of NATO. This will be a tragedy, because we will continue to follow the illusion,” Chaly said.
Let us remember that the day before, US President Joe Biden called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The parties agreed to hold a bilateral meeting and discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
