You will have to deal with the army - the Belarusian Minister of Defense sternly warned the Maidan activists
Starting today, the Belarusian Army is taking under protection all monuments and memorials to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in order to prevent nationalist opposition rallies from taking place near them.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Belarus Viktor Khrenin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our people go to them to pray and lay flowers. Today we cannot calmly watch as actions take place in these sacred places under the flags under which the fascists organized the massacres of Belarusians, Russians, Jews, and representatives of other nationalities. We cannot allow this.
Therefore, from today we take them under our protection and protection. We strongly warn you; in the event of a violation of order and tranquility in these places, you will no longer be dealing with the police, but with the army,” Khrenin said.
The media report that the “Minsk Hero City” stele, under which the opposition liked to gather, is surrounded by barbed wire.
At the protest on August 16, Maidan workers wrapped a nationalist white and red flag around the monument on Victory Square in Minsk, which outraged many residents of the Belarusian capital.
In recent days, the opposition has been calling on its supporters to take not only nationalist but also state flags to protests, but white and red flags still prevail.
It is noteworthy that the telegram channel Nexta, administered from Poland, which coordinates the actions of the Maidan protesters, wrote: “Attention! We don’t go near the WWII museum!”
