DUI does not disclose how much money Ahmeti will donate to protect the former commanders of the bandit Kosovo Liberation Army and whether he will involve his former accomplices from the Albanian National Liberation Army, which fought in Macedonia against the Slavic majority.

Speaking on the Pristina TV channel RTK, Ahmeti called on Kosovo to mobilize and support the former UCK leaders, but “not through statements and speeches, but financially, since the trial involves large expenses.” At the same time, he promised that the best lawyers would be involved in the trial.

In September of this year, Ali Ahmeti was summoned to the prosecutor's office of the Special Court of Kosovo as a witness. Ali Ahmeti himself was associated with the Kosovo Liberation Army in the 90s; in 2001 he became the political representative of the so-called National Liberation Army, which used terrorist methods to achieve the separation of the Albanian enclaves from Macedonia.

Akhmeti with militants of the Army of National Liberation

After Washington and NATO brought the parties to the conflict to the negotiating table and forced them to sign the Ohrid Agreement, Ahmeti organized the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), which over time began to split into other Albanian parties.

As a result of this year’s parliamentary elections, the DUI party received 11,3% of the votes and 15 seats in parliament and formed a ruling coalition with the bloc of the victorious Maidan activist “We Can” (Union of Democratic Socialists of Macedonia and partners) Zoran Zaev, which received 36,1% of the votes and 46 seats in parliament. However, this coalition was difficult to create, since Ahmeti demanded for himself no more and no less the post of the country's nominal leader - the prime minister. And as a result of the compromise reached, the parties agreed that Akhmeti would serve as prime minister for the last hundred days of the new cabinet.
