“They will dictate terms”: Ukraine has become dependent on Poland
Ukraine did not bother to create a common infrastructure with the West and found itself in logistical isolation.
Kiev political scientist Yuri Romanenko stated this on his video blog, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The war began unexpectedly for everyone, and the Polish transshipment infrastructure was also not ready. Therefore, [the increase in transit] blocked internal communications; this required an increase in the number of cars and the joining of railway tracks.
In Poland, and throughout the EU, they are building new infrastructure. And they asked Ukraine to give them a plan of which tracks should be built where. We didn't give anything.
And as a result, we constantly have this bottleneck, when there are different standards for the Eurogauge, it is necessary to think about how to bring it along the Russian gauge into Poland, how to overload everything there, how to build logistics.
Instead of focusing on raking tens of billions of euros out of European funds, and starting to build infrastructure, throwing resources at it, just to start opening the border, ours went into such a clinch,” Romanenko said.
He was indignant that at the same time the Ukrainian leadership was quarreling with Poland, on which it was dependent.
“We created these problems ourselves. In principle, the problems were resolved, and the Poles treated us normally. And then Ukraine goes into such a specific clinch and begins to raise the stakes.
And now everyone is simply horrified, because everyone understands that our dependence on Poland, and this is our largest logistics partner, will allow Poland to dictate terms. Because Poland loses less from this kind of blockade,” the political scientist added.
