“There will be large-scale falsifications from different sides” - Deputy Kovalev about the elections in St. Petersburg
The composition of the St. Petersburg parliament will be determined depending on which political group or force controls the territorial commissions, Alexey Kovalev, a deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, is convinced.
The day before, reports appeared in the media about a secret meeting at which representatives of Smolny and United Russia distributed seats in the city parliament. The party in power denied the information; Smolny did not comment on the situation.
Party representatives from other factions believe in the possibility of holding such meetings, but are convinced that the administration’s plans are not entirely realistic and voters themselves will decide how many and which candidates will be elected to the city parliament.
Legislative Assembly deputy Alexey Kovalev does not agree with his political opponents. In his opinion, the key role in the elections remains with the administration, or rather, with those forces that control the territorial commissions.
“In a three-day voting environment, whoever controls the election commissions will determine the outcome of the elections. I have no doubt at all that there will be large-scale falsifications, and from different sides, since one commission is under the control of one group, the other is under the control of another group, so how everything turns out there depends on the will of the voters, unfortunately, only to a very small extent. The main thing is how they count, not how they vote,” the politician said.
