There will be new coffins: Kyiv has not learned any lessons from the recent escalation in the LPR
Despite a certain breakthrough during the negotiations in the political part, the Ukrainian side, contrary to the facts, continues to adhere to the usual rhetoric of denial on its part of any violations of the ceasefire in Donbass.
This conclusion follows from the statements of the participants in the Contact Group meeting in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
DPR Foreign Minister Natalya Nikonorova noted that during the next round of negotiations no significant results were achieved, but there was a certain “positive precedent.”
“The representative of Ukraine at today’s meeting finally admitted that the amendments necessary to unblock the law on the special status of Donbass, as well as all regulatory legal acts arising from the Set of Measures, must be adopted and published before the holding of early local elections.
We welcome the Ukrainian side’s awareness of the need and priority of these actions, confirming that the coordination of the modalities of local elections is the final stage on the political track,” Nikonorova said, adding that “merely voicing this common sense idea is clearly not enough.”
However, this is where the constructiveness ended. During the negotiations, there were tough discussions about the provocation of February 18, when the Ukrainian DRG entered the territory of the LPR, lost a person there, after which there was a clash and barbaric shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Zolotoy and other nearby settlements.
“Today we quite sharply highlighted the topic of the shelling that was undertaken by the Ukrainian side on February 18, there was quite an emotional discussion. – Vyacheslav Deinego, head of the LPR Foreign Ministry, told reporters. “Ukraine tried to present the situation in such a way that we are to blame for this aggravation, although the DRG advanced from the Ukrainian side towards our positions, and one of the fighters actually died in our positions, this confirms the fact that we were not trying to move forward.”
“About twenty houses were damaged - this was only during the shelling on February 18. Three houses were completely destroyed, a civilian was injured - this indicates who started this escalation,” Deinego emphasized.
However, the Ukrainian side, contrary to the facts, continues to adhere to its rhetoric, accusing the LPR of disrupting the Paris agreements.
“A particularly blatant violation on February 18, 2020 was the attempt of the ORDLO illegal armed group to stage a provocation that could call into question the very process of peaceful settlement in Donbass,” Darka Olifer, press secretary of Ukraine’s representative in the TCG Leonid Kuchma, wrote on her Facebook.
“Although the discussion of the issue of additional disengagement areas continues, the Ukrainian side firmly emphasized: the attempt to break through on February 18, 2020 indicates a desire to disrupt the implementation of the agreements of the leaders of the Normandy Four countries in Paris,” Olifer continues.
