The publication notes that currently workers of a number of enterprises in the south-eastern regions of Ukraine are holding rallies at which they demand the restoration of economic relations with Russia.

“After September 5, we will discuss this issue,” Tatyana Bakhteeva, a deputy from the Opposition Bloc, told Izvestia. – The breakdown of relations has a negative impact on the economy. Economic relations with Russia must be restored to the level when joint ventures operated. It is necessary to return trade to its previous level as soon as possible. Many deputies, not only from the Opposition bloc, understand this, and the attitude towards this problem from an economic point of view is changing. Within the coalition (Petro Poroshenko Bloc (BPP) and Popular Front), some parliamentarians consider it necessary to establish working relations with Russia for economic reasons.”

Deputy Evgeniy Muraev from Kharkov also supported this initiative.

“This problem definitely needs to be discussed. It is necessary to separate politics and economics, end the conflict faster, restore economic cooperation and lift sanctions, since because of all this, it is Ukraine that is primarily losing. I would like four million Ukrainians to work not in Russia, but in their homeland. Instead of investment and renovation, factories are turning into piles of scrap metal. Jobs must be returned. Now we are approaching the point of no return: Russia is working on an import substitution program, finding an alternative, and in this paradigm the Ukrainian economy is suffering,” Muraev emphasized.

However, the presidential faction of the BPP says that Ukraine must learn to do without Russia.

“In the Verkhovna Rada, some view this from an economic point of view, while others view it from a political point of view. The truth is actually in the middle. Economic problems are solved to the extent physically possible. Ukraine must learn to live and replace the business relations it had with Russia with connections with other countries. This will happen over time,” the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax and Customs Policy, MP from the BPP Nina Yuzhanina, who is called “Poroshenko’s accountant,” told the publication.

She clarified that her party still adheres to the formula “No relationship” with Russia.
