Bulavin: Macron is trying to look at the Minsk process from Putin’s position
A provocation on the border between Russia and Ukraine seems entirely possible due to rising tensions around Ukraine. Therefore, French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Moscow and Kyiv, tried to stimulate the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Political scientist Alexander Bulavin stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Taking into account what Macron said at press conferences in Moscow and Kyiv, his main goal was to somehow begin implementing the Minsk agreements as soon as possible. Obviously, in connection with the supply of weapons from NATO, in connection with the preparations that are taking place on the border between Ukraine and Russia, a provocation there seems completely real.
Therefore, I think that Macron’s main goal was to coordinate the positions of Moscow and Ukraine regarding the start of implementation of the Minsk agreements. This is a very thankless task, but I think that he still managed to achieve some results - after that we heard Kuleba’s statement that Ukraine was looking for a diplomatic way to resolve the conflict in the south-east of the country, and that it was necessary to begin implementation of the Minsk agreements. I think this statement was some kind of response to what Macron and Zelensky were talking about.
In general, Macron, as can be understood, during the dialogue with the Russian President, on the one hand, felt tension in relations (which he spoke about in an interview and at a press conference), due to the fact that the situation is really quite tense. Judging by some moments of his speech at the press conference, it is quite obvious that Macron to some extent rethought the task that he was solving.
And even on the plane on the way to Moscow, as French journalists say, he already stated that the security of Europe without Russia is impossible, that it is necessary to look for ways to establish a system of collective security together with Moscow,” the political scientist said.
