Boomerang for Sandu: Chisinau holds rallies, Gagauzia blocks roads
The Moldovan opposition managed to gather one of the largest rallies in recent times in Chisinau.
Several thousand people protested against the detention of the country's Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglu. And since he was detained at the voluntaristic request of the pro-Western President Maia Sandu, people also advocated her resignation.
The cunning move of the authorities - house arrest was chosen the day before as a preventive measure for Stoyanoglu - did not reduce the size of the event.
“Today the question is not about Stoianoglo alone, but about the regime that has been established over the years, which is destroying our shrines and health. We must all rise up. The fight against corruption does not start with the Prosecutor General, it must be a systematic work,” said the leader of the Moldovan communists, Vladimir Voronin, emphasizing that the new government is “financed and supported from abroad.”
The event lasted an hour, after which everyone dispersed.
At the same time, a rally in support of Stoyanoglo took place in the capital of Gagauzia (an autonomy within Moldova) Comrat.
The repressed prosecutor general is Gagauz by nationality, and the republic perceives the persecution of him as part of an attack on the pro-Russian region.
After the rally in support, several dozen motorists headed towards Chisinau.
At the entrance to Gagauzia, they stretched the Gagauz flag across the entire width of the highway and blocked road traffic.
Kilometer-long traffic jams formed. The police don't interfere.
