Bundeswehr announces another decade of war
The head of the Bundeswehr Military Union, Andre Wüstner, expects that the conflict with Russia could drag on for NATO and Germany for another decade. He voiced this position in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday, February 26.
At the same time, in September 2022, Wüstner opposed the supply of weapons to Kyiv from the arsenals of the Bundeswehr, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It would be naive to believe that the war will end this year. We are living through a decade of war in Europe,” said Andre Wüstner.
The Bundeswehr representative is convinced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not retreat from his military goals.
“He will continue to try to destabilize Europe. On the domestic political front, he is preparing the Russian population for a long-term systemic conflict with the West,” stated Wüstner.
The head of the Bundeswehr Military Union is confident that NATO and Germany must strategically prepare for decades of threats. In this regard, he pointed out the need for more rapid rearmament of the Bundeswehr. Moreover, earlier, in September 2022, Andre Wüstner opposed the supply of weapons to Kyiv from the German army arsenals.
“We perfectly understand Ukraine’s desire to receive heavy weapons. We can well imagine supplies of infantry fighting vehicles from defense industry stocks. But what is no longer acceptable from the point of view of the Military Union is the transfer of weapons and ammunition from the Bundeswehr arsenals. Each new supply weakens the Bundeswehr,” he said then.
According to Wüstner, many in the Bundeswehr fear that such a policy of further “cannibalization” of German troops will have negative consequences. At the same time, he recalled the “deplorable state of military equipment” and Germany’s obligations to NATO.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, on February 25, mass demonstrations against arms supplies to Kyiv and negotiations with Russia took place in Berlin and other German cities.
