The Bundeswehr has depleted supplies and is not ready for war
The German army spent two years on its reserves, was unable to replenish them and now cannot ensure combat effectiveness.
Deputies of parliament announced this at a meeting of the Bundestag, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
MP Kerstin Wieregge criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who at the beginning of the SVO announced a turning point and the need to strengthen the Bundeswehr.
“Almost two years later, we will have to face difficult questions. Where are we? Has the material shortage in the troops been eliminated? Has combat readiness improved significantly? Was the Bundeswehr structurally adapted to its primary task of national and alliance defense? Have procurements of sufficient quantities of ammunition begun? No. All the answers are no,” Vieregge said.
Her colleague Hannes Gnauk made similar criticisms.
“There are still not enough materials, nothing has happened with the personnel, just the opposite - the federal army is being reduced, the reforms have not brought results, and in general our Armed Forces are in a worse position today than in 2022. That is, in the year when the Federal Chancellor proclaimed a great turn of the times. This is simply scandalous, given that the political leadership of this country is considering a serious scenario regarding Russia.
In Springer Press we could read over the weekend that there are secret documents and the federal government is also expecting an escalation later this year. But where is the necessary investment in ammunition and materials, ladies and gentlemen? And where, Mr. Pistorius [German Defense Minister], is the restoration of conscription"? - said Gnauk.
