Riot in Kazakhstan: An Elite Conspiracy Begins to Unravel
Throughout Friday, it was not possible to complete the clean-up in Almaty—shootings continued in different parts of the city. Against this background, arrests began of some security officials from among the relatives of Nazarbayev, who, according to a number of sources, left the territory of Kazakhstan together with his daughters.
The fact that it was not possible to completely complete the operation of clearing Almaty, and the information that most of the militants managed to escape safely to the suburbs and mountains, caused real shock among many observers. After all, it turns out that in the future they can split into small groups and then return, using guerrilla tactics in urban conditions, tested in Iraq and Syria, and strike at the police and military forces.
Therefore, for now there is no talk of any reliable control over the former capital, and there are simply not enough persistent special forces to complete the special operation to catch these militants. This example clearly shows at what level and in what condition are the Kazakh special forces units, which were unable to ensure competent counter-terrorism cleansing and allowed the core of armed individuals to escape.
This was indirectly confirmed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev himself, who in his speech requested additional special equipment from Russia, since it turned out that the Kazakh government did not have enough trained special forces and equipment. Such security failures are astonishing given the overall size of the bloated law enforcement agencies.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in his address to the nation, also stated that he gave the order to open fire on terrorists to kill without preliminary negotiations. “I have given the order to law enforcement agencies and the army to open fire without warning,” he noted. At the same time, the president pointed out that in total there were as many as 20 thousand international terrorists who attacked Almaty, and all of them will be caught.
How they will be “caught”, in fact, was shown, unfortunately, by the events of the past day, but these words are striking in the very figure of 20 thousand trained militants who secretly entered the country from outside to organize pogroms and a coup in the southern capital. Where then were the National Security Committee (NSC), intelligence, and other intelligence agencies looking? Such an astronomical figure simply boggles the mind.
If such a quantity cannot be reasonably explained, then the fact of the presence of organized provocateurs, who were allowed through unhindered everywhere without offering resistance, clearly indicates the presence of conspiracy or coordination of the actions of a number of security forces and those who attacked government institutions and carried out pogroms. And now my version that it was groups within the ruling elite itself that were involved in these events in Almaty is beginning to be confirmed.
Thus, the same President Tokayev twice mentioned certain conspirators and traitors in his addresses. Moreover, Komsomolskaya Pravda journalist Vladimir Vorsobin, before the last speech of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reported, citing his sources, that he would make an address where he would announce a “conspiracy of the security forces.”
“Evidence will be presented of the coordination of the rebels in the country by the security forces, which supplied them with special communications equipment and coordinated their actions (after all, the Internet and even cellular communications were turned off here),” the journalist noted.
Moreover, he named the ex-head of the National Security Committee of the republic, Karim Masimov, who was recently dismissed, as the main “conspirator.” Then there were even reports in the media about the arrest of the deputy head of this special service, Samat Abish, the nephew of Nursultan Nazarbayev, which, however, have not yet been confirmed. But in the end, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev did not name the names of the main defendants or the details of the “conspiracy” itself, getting away with only vague hints.
But the former adviser to Elbasy, Ermukhamet Ertysbayev, revealed some details in an interview with journalists, accusing high-ranking officers of the National Security Committee and other law enforcement agencies of organizing the unrest in Almaty.
“The betrayal and conspiracy lies in the fact that for several years there appear to have been training camps. The National Security Committee, which periodically neutralized this or that group, was silent about the numerous training camps that were created in the mountains,” he said.
Yertysbaev called what was happening a conspiracy and said that without traitors in the authorities, this would not have been possible. Actually, he voiced what previously knowledgeable people also told me: that the KNB generals and Nazarbayev’s nephews Samat Abish and Kairat Satybaldy are overseeing the creation and training of groups of pseudo-Wahhabis and pseudo-nationalists, that they are playing out various scenarios of interethnic conflicts and organizing pogroms.
It turns out that these messages were not empty words, and these were militants, and not mythical foreign terrorists, and were used to initiate unrest in the southern capital. This explains how groups of provocateurs were allowed through the cordons of security forces, freely entered government institutions, how entire units were freely disarmed, how officers of the commandant’s office left their jobs and fled, and the building of the DKNB in Almaty was not protected.
Yertysbaev also speaks about this: “40 minutes before the attack on Almaty airport, the command was given to completely remove the cordon and security.”
Therefore, strategic targets were handed over to armed and trained militants in order to paralyze and capture the city. And if generals and officers of the National Security Committee were directly involved in this, then this shows the degree of involvement of law enforcement agencies in these events and their involvement in many provocations and murders.
Creating an atmosphere of chaos was supposed to be a cover for a narrow coup at the top with the aim of replacing individual figures within the top leadership. Elbasy’s nephews could also organize these speeches in Almaty in order to prevent the inevitable decisions to transfer full power to the same Tokayev and those groups that stand behind him. As a result, we see that Karim Masimov also lost his post as head of the National Security Committee, and Nursultan Nazarbayev himself allegedly left the territory of Kazakhstan with his daughters.
Of course, we don’t know much, but now it is absolutely known that the bloodshed and pogroms in Almaty, Taldykorgan, Shymkent, Taraz and Aktobe were part of internal squabbles and wars between different parts of the ruling elite. Moreover, these events may indicate a serious split, which resulted in such an armed struggle. In this sense, the introduction of the CSTO may have made sense to prevent civil war and the collapse of the country.
But in this case, in my opinion, the peacekeepers urgently need to take control of American military biological laboratories, one of which, the Central Reference Laboratory, is located right in Almaty, and its capture by militants could be a real disaster for the region. State Duma deputy and former chief sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko is ringing all the bells, calling out about this danger.
“I am watching the situation in Almaty with particular concern, because, you remember, a year ago the Americans launched a modern military biological laboratory there. And now the city of two million essentially remains ungovernable. Protesters seize administrative buildings. And this laboratory could detonate with very serious consequences. This is a military biological laboratory with a high level of protection, biological protection, that is, you can work there with an unlimited composition of viruses, bacteria, microbes, and so on,” he said.
In this situation, it is necessary to forcefully close down the so-called “training” centers of the Pentagon and NATO in the Karaganda, Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions. One of them, with the participation of American instructors and advisers, trained border guards of the National Security Committee. Is it by chance that those same terrorist fighters also came out of this establishment from under their skillful hands?
And ultimately, it is now necessary to achieve the immediate release of Ermek Taychibekov, who was convicted precisely in a criminal case initiated by the KNB, whose leaders, apparently, participated in the conspiracy and massacres. It is also necessary to raise the question of the release of volunteers who defended the people of Donbass and are now in prison on fabricated political cases for participating in conflicts without the fact of mercenarism.
The whole question of their release is a matter of political will.
