“Buza, dumplings, party” - Ukrainians called the pre-industrial hetmanate the “Golden Age” of the state
A sociological survey conducted in Ukraine showed that the ideal state for its people is a pre-industrial hetman country, in which there are constant Maidans and coups d'etat.
Igor Popov, an expert on political issues at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We asked Ukrainians what values and symbols they have. And when they listed, they usually remembered dumplings, embroidered shirts, culture, nature, language. That is, everything that appeared many years ago.
But they didn’t talk about modern values. That is, there is no reason to be proud of anything that exists now. And being proud of what was created in the USSR is no longer popular among those surveyed.
Also, when they asked what heroes Ukrainians have, they named historical figures - Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka. Of the modern heroes, only athletes and singers were named.
That is, what was called pre-industrial values. This is something we are proud of, but it happened three hundred years ago.
Every nation has its own "Golden Age". And if you look at the results, then for Ukrainians the “Golden Age” is a Cossack country led by a hetman. And when we ask about the dream, they picture a return to that era,” he said.
Igor Popov also emphasized that Ukrainians are extremely proud of the opportunity to constantly organize Maidans and coups in their country, changing unwanted rulers.
“This characterizes the attitude of Ukrainians towards power. Also, as it turned out, the main value that Ukrainians are proud of, unlike Russians, is that there has been a desacralization of power, and we really want to have a kind, smart and educated hetman, but so that the people can overthrow him if this hetman begins to violate the conditions of public agreement.
And Ukrainians are proud of those events when they kicked out the hetman, who turned out to be different from what they expected,” the expert concluded.
